Wingham Brush Tours added to Sesqui Schedule

If you went to school at the Isabella Street site - now Wingham Brush Public School - you probably have a sack full of memories of The Brush. There were numerous school excursions, from infants school walkabouts to senior high school biology classes, barbecues by the river, trips for brownies and cubs...and that's just the official visits. There were also the hours spent wagging school and hiding out in The Brush, or ducking through The Brush to get to the river for a sneaky swim.

New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service are helping us to celebrate our Sesqui by running guided tours of The Brush on Saturday 13th September, after the Wingham Brush Public School Open for Inspection. Experienced Guide Keith Davy and Ranger Michael Thomas will guide you through the Brush on Rainforest Rambles. Each tour lasts about 45 minutes (at a relaxed pace) and is suitable for adults and children alike.

Tours will leave from the Enviro Centre (at the Brush end of Wingham Brush Public School) at 1:30pm, 2:30pm or 3:30pm sharp. Sesqui Rainforest Rambles are free, and bookings are not required. Please wear enclosed shoes - no thongs of slipons.

Sign O' the Times

Today, our Sesquicentenary preparations reached another milestone with our banner being erected on Taree Road at the entrance to Wingham. Now, there's no excuse for anyone coming into Wingham not knowing about Sesqui!

Thanks very much to our key sponsors, Wingham Teachers Association, for making this banner possible.

Tickets on sale Monday for the Official Reception

Tickets for the Official Reception to celebrate Wingham's Sesquicentenary of Public Education will go on sale at 9am on Monday, July 28th. The evening of celebration, on Saturday night September 13, will be held in the auditorium at Wingham Services Club.

Sesquicentenary Committee Project Manager Sally Piracha said "With the big weekend of celebrations less than two months away, there's already a great buzz around town. Accommodation is starting to fill up, plans for exhibitions and displays are well under way, students are preparing their contributions and everyone is looking forward to the chance to frock up and celebrate."

Tickets can be purchased from Monday for $40 per person from the following schools:

Ø  Wingham Public School, Murray Road, Wingham
Ø  Wingham Brush Public School, Isabella Street, Wingham
Ø  Wingham High School, Rowley Street, Wingham

These tickets are already in high demand, so they will be allocated on a first-in basis, and must be paid for in full at the time of purchase.

To assist the many guests travelling to Wingham for the Sesquicentenary celebrations, a strictly limited number of tickets will be made available online. To reserve tickets online, email your request to: winghameducation150@gmail.com, and include your name, number of tickets requested and postal address on your email. Payment details will be sent via return email.

Susan Ryan, Sesquicentenary Committee Liaison, sees the Official Reception as one of the biggest events on Wingham's social calendar in 2014. "We're planning a really special night, an opportunity to catch up with past and present students and staff from several decades of public education in Wingham."

"While no-one is expected to wear a tux, the theme is semi-formal. We're celebrating in style," she added.

The ticket price includes canapés, a drink on arrival, entertainment and a souvenir programme. Drinks will be available at club prices. Unfortunately, children cannot be admitted to this event.

Ladies, if you're ordering Plus Sizes, just be aware that they tend to shrink upwards when washed, so you may end up with a shorter shirt. Consider buying a larger size.
